Konstantin S. KRASOVSKY was born on 28th March 1957 in Kiev, Ukraine. He graduated from the Kiev State University in 1980 and obtained Ph.D. (marine geology) degree in 1984. In 1983-1994 K. Krasovsky worked in some institutions of the National Academy of Sciences. Since 1989 he is involved in alcohol- and drug-related problems research. Since 1985 K.Krasovsky participates in temperance movement. In 1991 he was a co-founder of Independent Sobriety Association - international (ISA). In 1991-1993 K. Krasovsky was a secretary of the ISA, in 1993-1995 he was a president of the ISA. Since 2001 K.Krasovsky is a secretary general of the ISA. In 1994-2002 he was a member of the International Board of the IOGT-International – the largest temperance organization in the world. K.Krasovsky was an organizer of the WHO Conference Alcohol and Other Drugs Problems in rapidly changing socio-economic environments (Kiev, October 1993) and a co-organizer of some other meetings. He has been organizing the WHO conference on Tobacco control which was held in Kiev in 1997. In 1994 he worked in Copenhagen as a short-term consultant in the Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco Unit of the WHO Regional Office for Europe. Since February, 1995 K.Krasovsky is an executive director of the Alcohol and Drug Information Center in Kiev. In 1992-1994 K.Krasovsky was consultant of the parliament commission on law and order, since 1996 he is a consultant of the parliament commission on health, motherhood and childhood. Since 1997 he is a member of the Tobacco Control Board of the Government of Ukraine. Since 1992 took part in many international conferences and meetings on alcohol, tobacco and drug issues, such as World Conferences on Tobacco or Health (Beijing, 1997, Chicago, 2000, Helsinki, 2003, Washington, 2006). Member of Program Sub-Committee of the 13th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (Washington, 2006). He is a member of Scientific Committee of the 15th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (Singapore, 2012). He worked as trainer at tobacco control seminars in Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. Since September 2000 coordinator of the NGO Coalition "For Tobacco Free Ukraine". In 2001 coordinated the World Bank project on tobacco control economics in Ukraine. In 2002 coordinated the project on smoking cessation in Ukraine. In 2002-2006 he was a consultant of the Tobacco Control Resource Center project. In 2003 Krasovsky received the World Health Organization Award in recognition of outstanding contribution to tobacco control. In 2003-2004 he was a policy fellow of the Open Society Institute (Budapest) on Tobacco Economics and Advocacy. In 2007-2009 worked as a National Tobacco Control Officer in the WHO Country Office in Ukraine. Since April 2007 – member of the National Public Health Board of the President of Ukraine. In 2007 and 2010 he was a member of the delegation of Ukraine at the Second and Forth sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. He participated in the working groups of the parliament of Ukraine preparing national laws on tobacco taxes (March, 2009) and amendments to tobacco control law (May-June, 2009). Since January 2009 – Head of the tobacco control unit at the Ukrainian Institute of Strategic Research of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. On September 3, 2009 the Government of Ukraine has adopted the National Special Social Program for Reduction of the Harmful Impact of Tobacco on Public Health in Ukraine for period till 2012. K.Krasovsky provided technical assistance to authorities at all stages of the program development. Author of many books, such as What can I do to help my children be drug free (1999), Why does media write on alcohol, tobacco and drugs (2002), Tobacco and Health (2004), Tobacco and Law (2005), as well as articles on alcohol, tobacco and drug issues in periodicals. |
