In 1996 prices for most popular domestic cigarettes without filter "Prima" were on average 0.18 hryvna (0.1US$) per pack. The most popular imported brand L&M cost on average 0.9 hryvna (0,5 US$) and Marlboro cost 1.8 hryvna (1.0 US$).
In 1999 respective prices are 0.6 hryvna (0.12 US$) for Prima, 2.0 hryvna (0.4 US$) for L&M, and 3.5 hryvna (0.7US$) for Marlboro. Taking into account inflation we can say, that prices of domestic cigarettes increased due to tax increase. Prices of imported (smuggled) cigarettes decrease due to reduction of population income.
